Fabric Maintenance Coating Engineer – Job Description

A Fabric Maintenance (FM) Coating Engineer is required to lead and confront the external corrosion challenges that are currently experienced onboard SBM’s fleet of FPSOs in Brasil.  

The suitable candidate will primarily be based onshore and will report to the Asset Integrity Fabric Maintenance Lead in Brasil and will direct and support the offshore Fabric Maintenance Supervisors in all aspects of Fabric Maintenance Coating work onboard SBM’s FPSOs, including the evaluation of and analysis of the Interplan baseline corrosion data and the prioritisation of external corrosion tasks based upon risk. The candidate shall be able plan and execute external corrosion scopes of work as highlighted within the Interplan corrosion management tool and ensure that correct Quality Control is being observed during the Coating repairs via the Interplan platform. The candidate will be required to embark each FPSO and carry out Interplan audits at least once per year.   

TASKS (General)

  • Ensure that the Quality Control and management of all Fabric Maintenance Coating (Painting) scopes of work are being strictly adhered to and executed as per the requirements of SBM’s Fabric Maintenance Painting Specification. 
  • Liaise with offshore Fabric Maintenance Supervisors with regards to all SBM’s Units Fabric Maintenance Scopes, Planning, scheduling and facilitating POs to be issued for the Interplan inspections.
  • Monitor and report to SBM’s Asset Integrity Management in Head Office, the progress of the Fabric Maintenance KPI’s and provide feedback locally to the Fabric Maintenance Lead.  
  • Prepare FM weekly and monthly reports to cross check against schedule and planning.
  • Provide technical support and training to offshore and onshore teams where required, including the Client.
  • Lead and organize regional progress meetings for follow-up (biweekly).
  • Collect issues from within SBM’s fleet in an action list and work on it with the other Maintenance Engineers and SPIE Engineers.
  • Provide ad hoc support in the selection, procurement and certification of materials and Vendors required to carry out Fabric Maintenance Coating scopes on SBM Units.
  • Carry out offshore visits for Surveys/Fabric Maintenance Audits/Training when required.  

TASKS (Interplan)

  • Ensure Interplan Baseline Surveys are complete in a timely manner and are correctly uploaded to Interplan Web Server.
  • Ensure Tasks are generated and prioritized accordingly and are uploaded onto the unit’s iPads in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily verifications of SBM Fleet Dashboard status on Interplan Web Application and liaise with the offshore FM Supervisors to correct any inconsistency in the task generation, priority allocation or upload to the iPad’s.
  • Ensure the execution of corrosion Tasks offshore are fully aligned with Interplan’s QC Management System (iPad).  
  • Prioritize P1 and P2 Tasks for close out and manage and organize the P3, P4, P5 and P6 tasks within budget allocation.
  • Report weekly to the Asset Integrity Fabric Maintenance Lead regarding the task status (Open, Ready to Work, In Progress, Complete).
  • Produce monthly reports and the KPI status for distribution to SBM’s Asset Integrity Management and FM Leads.
  • During the preparation of and the execution of all FM painting scopes of work, the candidate shall engage in weekly meetings with the Fabric Maintenance Lead to review the progress of open and closed out tasks. The candidate shall be proficient in managing and scheduling the external corrosion activities for the weeks ahead and in turn, this shall be cascaded to all offshore FM Supervisors.
  • Provide Interplan Training and Technical Support to the offshore 3rd Party Painting company, Maintenance Engineers and FM Supervisors.
  • Provide feedback with regards to the continuous improvement of Interplan for the Asset Integrity Technical Expert in Head Office and the Integrity and Inspection department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience within a similar role with a Fabric Maintenance Coating background.
  • Ideally the candidate should come from a Coating Chemist or Coating Technician background with experience in the development of Coatings, Tank Linings, Pressure Vessel Linings, Epoxy Passive Fire Protection and demonstrate proficiencies in the testing of Coatings within a Laboratory environment.    
  • Previous experience in the managing of offshore FM Coating activities is required.
  • Candidate to be trained to Coating Inspector NACE CIP (now AMPP) Level ll, FROSIO Level ll or above. Equivalent Coating Inspector training will also be considered which shall be clearly stated on the candidate’s CV (Resume) for validation.   
  • Good knowledge of Interplan System is desirable, but training will be provided.
  • NACE (AMPP) O-CAT or S-CAT equivalent certification is preferred.
  • A knowledge of galvanized surfaces and the differing Corrosion Resistant Alloys such as, 316 Stainless Steel, Duplex Stainless Steel and Super Duplex Stainless Steel is preferable and the generic coating types required for these alloys.  
  • A good knowledge of Epoxy Passive Fire Protection is an advantage.
  • Application of Tank Linings and Pressure Vessel Linings is sometimes necessary, therefore, the candite shall demonstrate competencies in the areas of replacing or repairing Lining systems.      
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Apple iPad usage.
  • Full training will be provided to the right candidate who can demonstrate all of, or the majority of the above skills, experience and competency requirements.
