Job description:

ROLE PURPOSE

  • The Department Manager takes ownership for the overall quality and performance of the work performed by the department and ensures that all the department activities and deliveries are fully aligned with standards/ requirements/ regulations. You are also responsible for developing and improving department related tools and processes.
  • The Department Manager is accountable for developing and maintaining synergies through the department and ensures the department is working in an integrated manner. The Department Manager shall coordinate interfaces with other departments.
  • The Department Manager shall lead the department employees and ensure they have the right (level of) competencies to deliver the work results in time and within budget. You shall oversee resource allocation, employee development and talent development.
  • The Department Manager shall have the capacity to intervene hands-on when required by the business

 

ROLE CONTRIBUTION

  1. Take ownership of the overall quality and performance of the work performed by the department,
    1. Ensure that the safety and quality of all produced results within the department are aligned with Group Standards/procedures, as well as (if applicable) Client’s requirements and international/ local law and regulations.
    2. Ensure GEMS processes and (where applicable) working instructions are understood and followed across different expertise areas.
    3. Ensure feedback (from other departments/ Group Managers/ other RC’s) related to the department activities are followed up.
    4. Ensure a permanent watch of the related industry standard/common practice
    5. Ensure that efficient processes and tools are in place and will be developed/ improved where necessary.
    6. Ensure that all results produced within department are within the agreed time constraints and budget.
    7. Ensure that the working environment of all department employees is safe.

 

  1. Develop and maintain synergies through the department and with other departments,
    1. Continuously engage with other Managers to align approach and pro-actively share best practices in order to enable continuous improvements.
    2. Communicate with different expertise areas and other departments to ensure all parties are promptly informed of product or project developments.
    3. Support (project) delivery by proactively engaging with other Managers and stakeholders to reduce the “surprise” element which enables on time and within budget finalization.

 

  1. Effectively develop employees and manage talent,
    1. Ensure that department employees have the right (level of) competencies to enable both current and future business priorities and needs.
    2. Provide regular individual (and timely) feedback, ensure performance issues are addressed promptly and partner with HR to install and promote a motivating working environment.
    3. Ensure team has sufficient growth opportunities and proper development in relevant areas that are aligned with both current and future business needs
    4. Promote talent growth by ensuring talents have exposure and opportunities within the department/ other departments/projects/other RC’s when applicable.
    5. Ensure individual/ team development budget is properly allocated to maximize talent development for current/ future business needs
    6. Ensure appropriate employee time can be dedicated to development in order to ensure that current and future business needs can be met
    7. Coach employees, utilize and follow-up of development action plans and engage in effective retention efforts.

 

  1. Ensure good resource management,
    1. Review and manage department staffing plan to ensure that current and future workload needs can be met.
    2. Monitor utilization rates and take proactive actions to maximize productivity of resources.
    3. Coordinate resource allocation of employees with multiple expertise area’s in order to gain the most benefit for SBM
    4. Engage with other departments/ Regional Centers to identify mutually beneficial opportunities with regard to staffing needs or overcapacity.
    5. Network with other departments, RC’s and third party subcontractors to ensure that additional staffing requirements can be met when the workload is too high.

 

Job requirements:

  • Academic: bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Exp: Minimum 15 years’ experience in similar role.
  • SW or tools: Proficiency in project planning software such as Primavera P6, MS Projects, etc.
