We are seeking recently Graduated Engineers to join our Graduate Engineer Program. In this program you will rotate between various departments, projects, and locations to become fully indoctrinated in SBM’s business.  With this well-developed base of knowledge, you will be well on your way towards your chosen career path as an Engineer within the SBM Group.

 

DETAILS OF THE PROGRAMME

The Graduate Engineer Program is meant to provide recently graduated Engineers with the foundational knowledge they need to begin and accelerate their careers in the oil and gas industry. 

To achieve this, successful candidates will be rotated amongst various departments to learn the key processes and procedures that enable SBM Offshore to efficiently support our projects and operations.

Incumbents will be assigned to one or more of our SBM Offshore International Locations to gain exposure to SBM’s different lines of business and to achieve a broad view of how Execution Centers work collaboratively on a global level to support our clients. 

During the 18-month in-dept programme, candidates will be assessed to fully determine the area(s) suitable for their skills, knowledge, background, aptitude, exposure, and passion. 

Final placement (Permanent positions) will be in the Guyana Operations, supporting the designated department / vessel.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the proper design and selection of all electrical equipment necessary for the safe and optimum operation of the asset.  It is expected that the Electrical Engineer will work with Technical and Operations team, both within and outside the discipline to ensure instruments are selected, installed, and configured for optimum operation and accuracy.

As an Electrical Engineer the incumbent must properly apply discipline knowledge, such as specific sizing, selection, and international codes & standard knowledge to meet all required process and contractual requirements.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide technical support on Electrical related queries for Guyana fleet.
  • Support the design and modification of electrical infrastructure and power generation, provides guidance to engineering contractors for selection of electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, relays, generators, cables, starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment.
  • Support review of power systems simulations and analyses, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting and reacceleration, arc flash, transient stability, and relay coordination
  • Develop project scoping, design, and detail specifications for electric power systems.
  • Support preparation of technical work scopes for execution team to implement.
  • Provide Assurance of Engineering quality of sub-contractor’s electrical work to ensure consistency with project specifications and guidelines.
  • Contribute to development of Power and Utilities System reporting commitments, taking ownership of follow up on Actions assigned.
  • Participate in reliability and safety related studies to determine root causes of failures and recommend and develop remedial actions.
  • Assist System Owners for technical review of Management of Change (MoC) processes inclusive of preparation of documents and contribution to Task Risk Assessment (TRA)
  • Complete tasks in compliance with applicable engineering codes, industry standards/regulations and work procedures
  • Proactively interface with Discipline Lead and peers for resolving issues, sharing information and progress
  • Seek clarification or guidance as soon as difficulties arise; recommend alternative solutions!
  • Perform thorough self-check of all deliverables prior to submission for review /approval.
  • Thoughtfully plan work to allow adequate time for documents to be thoroughly checked to ensure accuracy.
  • Proactively provide System Owners and Discipline Lead with status updates, highlight concerns as they arise, and prioritize assigned activities to meet key milestones.
  • Ensure activities are complete, with consistency and in compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of regional or global Electrical standards (API, IEC, NFPA, NEC, NETA, etc.)
  • Knowledge or exposure to Electrical Modeling (ETAP, SKM or other), System Studies, and Coordination
  • Prior experience (through University Projects or in Industry) in Power distribution and/or generation.
  • Experience of basic electrical troubleshooting.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Fluent in (spoken and written) English.
  • Strong organisation and planning skills,
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
