Tax Counsel

We are looking for a Tax Specialist to work onshore at our Georgetown shore base.
ROLE PURPOSE:
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring tax compliance in accordance with the tax framework of Guyana, reducing liabilities and the optimizing financial health of the company. Job functions include, but are not limited to:
CORE FUNCTIONS:
- Preparation of corporate income tax return on a timely basis.
- Ensure all tax obligations, including VAT, withholding tax, personal taxes (PAYE) and social security contributions (more than 300 employees including nationals and expatriates) are calculated and paid timely with applicable tax laws.
- Ensure monthly reconciliation of tax related balance sheet accounts are conducted.
- Manage audits including tax audits and local statutory audits and resolving any disputes.
- Maintain sound knowledge of changes in law, regulations and rulings to provide expert insight and its impact on the company.
- Provide advise and guidance on tax-related matters and identifying opportunities to maximise financial efficiency including co-ordinating with other departments to align tax strategies with broader financial goals.
- Supporting in the preparation of tax notes to be included in the company’s statutory financial statements, in accordance with IFRS requirements.
- Providing year-end tax reporting deliverables to Group Tax.
- Maintaining detailed records of tax documents, correspondences and filings.
- Review and identify potential risks in tax planning strategies and implementing measures to mitigate and avoid legal implications.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Professional designations in tax accounting and finance is preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) Years of related experience and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience in tax laws and regulations.
- Experience working in companies operating globally will be a plus.
- Sound knowledge of tax laws and regulations of Guyana including but not limited to corporation tax act, income tax, value added tax etc. and it’s application.

- Very strong command and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases (Microsoft Suite).
