Department information

The Electrical and Instrumentation department is responsible for the design of electrical power generation and distribution systems, Integrated Control & Safety Systems, Fire & Gas Systems, Communication Systems and all associated field devices. The department is part of the Project Office of Kuala Lumpur, responsible for providing engineering and procurement services, associated with the hull and topsides of FPSO’s. 

 

Role description

As Discipline Lead Instrumentation within SBM, you are responsible to take ownership in defining and developing discipline scope by understanding and evaluating the project requirements. You ensure that the project is properly planned and lead the assigned engineers in the different phases of the project. As Discipline Lead Instrumentation, you are responsible for the proper design and selection all instrumentation necessary for the safe and optimum operation of the asset. You properly apply discipline knowledge such as specific sizing and selection knowledge to meet all required process and contractual requirements.

You may be assigned as a Package Engineer with technical responsibility for the design, procurement and manufacture, and Installation and Commissioning assistance of the Package.

Furthermore, you will:

  • Ensure activities are completed with consistency and in compliance with applicable codes, standard and regulations.
  • Achieve effective interface management with internal and external stakeholders and ensure changes are managed.
  • Proactively track areas likely to change to reduce the ‘surprise’ element, added costs and delays to project.
  • Collaborate with the Discipline Manager/Engineering Project Manager to accurately forecast man-hours, resource needs, and completion date for deliverables.

 

Role requirements

Our ideal candidate for the role of Discipline Lead Instrumentation has at least 8 years’ experience in Instrumentation Engineering in Oil and Gas projects (preferably FPSO projects). You have a relevant technical degree and are able to manage ambiguity in a project. You bring experience in the FEED phase of a project and bring some experience in leading/guiding a team. You are willing to travel, when necessary.
