- Engine Room Supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Superintendent on MPF Units
Background
- The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor will exhibit good, supervisory and safety behaviors and will specifically ensure that all aspects of Engine Room operation or aft machinery space and maintenance are carried out safely, through careful delegation and control of responsibilities.
Authority
- The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor is specifically responsible for the operation and maintenance of Engine Room / AMS equipment and Process utility systems controlled by the Engine Room and for the guidance and familiarization of those under their immediate supervision.

- Maintenance Operators, Visitors, Vendor Technicians, and sub-contractors.
Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards
- 1) Engine Room Equipment and Systems and Utilities Operation and Maintenance
- 1 Prepare Engine Room or AMS and Utility Systems for start-up.
- 2 Start and Monitor Engine Room or AMS and Utility Systems.
- 3 Prepare and Shutdown Engine Room or AMS and Utility Systems.
- 4 Isolate and reinstate Engine Room or AMS and Utility Systems for Maintenance.
- 2) Manage And Supervise Effectively
- 1 Establish effective relationships with colleagues and subcontractors.
- 2 Implement scope of work clearly (briefings, toolbox talks, presentations).
- 3 Plan and control use of resources effectively. (Personnel, time, materials, transport, IT) within limit of responsibility.
- 4 Use of communication skills shows leadership (oral, teambuilding, recording, noting, handover, analyzing).
- 5 Promote training and competency assurance throughout the department in line with Company goals for the Unit.
- 6 Encourage and support all department personnel to achieve training and competency targets and plan for appropriate time allocation for this area of work.
- 3) Contribute to control of critical situations and respond to emergencies
- 1 Developing critical situations (operational, weather, equipment failure, leaks, fires, personnel etc.) are identified and logged for later analysis.
- 2 Positive action is taken to limit escalation and to maintain control using applied policies or procedures or initiative.
- 3 Supervisor/CCR/OIM are alerted in good time as appropriate.
- 4) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures
- 1 Sample and check that controlled process discharges from area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits.
- 2 Identify and halt unplanned discharges where possible, and reported immediately according to policy, procedure and regulation.
- 3 Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure.
- 4 Resources such as PPE materials tools and spares are not wasted or used inefficiently.
- 5) Emergency Response
- 1 Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill).
- 2 Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises.
Recruitment Only-Generic Functional Competencies
Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified to EOOW STCW Reg AIII/1.
- At least 1-year experience as Watch keeping Marine Engineer (steam turbine watch keeping experience preferable).
- VLCC experience preferred.
- Proficiency in English at a minimum of A2 level according to the CEFR international standard.
- Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
