Purpose
- The Construction Quality Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and regulations.
- You monitor welding processes, perform inspections, and ensure the integrity of welded structures on the FPSO throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities
- You perform detailed inspections of welding processes, including visual and dimensional checks, ensuring compliance with project specifications, welding procedures, and industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
- You review and verify welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualifications to ensure that all procedures and personnel are compliant with the project’s requirements and applicable standards.
- You ensure that welders are properly qualified for the types of welding they are performing, including verifying welder qualification records (WQR) and overseeing testing of welders when required.
- You identify and report any welding defects, discrepancies, or non-conformance issues (e.g., cracks, porosity, undercuts, etc.) and collaborate with the welding team and project engineers to resolve them.
- You coordinate and monitor non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures (e.g., RT, UT, PT, MT) to verify the integrity of welds and confirm that welds meet required quality standards and specifications.
- You maintain accurate and up-to-date inspection records, including detailed reports of welding inspections, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions and ensuring that all welding-related documentation is compliant with quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
- You oversee the welding process to ensure that proper techniques and parameters are followed, including monitoring heat inputs, preand post-weld treatments, and ensuring conformance to the approved WPS.
- You prepare detailed reports on welding activities, including inspections, observations, and any issues or non-conformances identified.

- Diploma in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification (e.g., CSWIP, AWS) with knowledge of welding codes, standards, and procedures. Additional NDT certification (e.g., Level I/II) is a plus.
- Prior experience working specifically on FPSO construction projects or other large-scale offshore oil & gas projects is highly desirable.
Experience
- Proven experience in welding inspection within the oil & gas, offshore, or marine industries, with a strong focus on FPSO or shipbuilding projects.
- In-depth knowledge of various welding techniques and processes (e.g., SMAW, MIG, TIG, FCAW) used in offshore and FPSO construction.
- Familiarity with international welding codes and standards such as ASME, API, ISO, and AWS. Understanding of specific FPSO welding requirements and procedures is highly beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify welding-related issues and work collaboratively to implement corrective actions.
