ROLE PURPOSE
As Electrical Designer, you work closely with Engineers and other Designers to accurately interpret the engineering design and apply technical knowledge to all design aspects, including layout, wiring, and termination. You are to produce a fit for purpose design that can be manufactured and installed. You ensure application of best practices into design work and are accountable to the Discipline Manager and Lead Engineer/Designer for overall performance. *The Electrical Designer may act as Lead Designer for assigned projects
ROLE CONTRIBUTION 1. In order to develop the design successfully within agreed scope and schedule YOU ARE TO: 1.1. Utilize technical knowledge and software tools to clearly depict the design that can be easily and correctly interpreted by others 1.2. Communicate with Engineers and/or Lead Designer to ensure design intent is understood to avoid rework 1.3. Plan and deliver assigned tasks accurately within the agreed time frame. 1.4. Prioritize activities and effectively manage conflicting deadlines ensuring continued progress to meet the schedule. Proactively provide Lead Designer with status updates 1.5. Organize documents and deliverables so they are easy to understand and locate 1.6. Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to share information, produce a high quality product, and resolve design conflicts 1.7. Escalate unresolved issues to the Lead Designer/Engineer to minimize delays in deliverables The measure of your effectiveness in this will be: Completion of design/drawing against budget and schedule Functionality/constructability/manufacturability of design
2. To ensure the quality of design deliverables YOU ARE TO: 2.1. Be self-motivated to improve technical competencies for assigned tasks 2.2. Understand how assigned tasks fit within the project schedule and affect other stakeholders in meeting deadlines 2.3. Demonstrate adaptability in implementing change while ensuring MOC procedures are used 2.4. Ensure consistency of design and symbology. Perform self- checks to produce error-free deliverables 2.5. Collaborate with Package Engineers to ensure timely review of vendor documents and that comments are made with the required quality level 2.6. Comply with project scope, work instructions, specifications, codes, industry standards and regulations per project requirements The measure of your effectiveness in this will be: Cost of Non-Quality Demonstrated understanding of design impact on other disciplines
3. In order to contribute to the success of managing changes YOU ARE TO: 3.1. Raise awareness of issues timely to the Discipline Lead; understand the change impact within and across Disciplines and identify the stakeholders to be engaged 3.2. Respectfully challenge proposed changes that significantly impact project deliverables to ensure the best option is taken as the way forward 3.3. Prioritize activities to effectively manage conflicting deadlines to meet key milestones and deliverables 3.4. Ensure changes are conveyed through the established channels of communication to minimize the impact to deliverables and project 3.5. Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in implementing changes 3.6. Ensure Management of Change (MOC) procedures are used to promote positive impact to the project The measure of your effectiveness in this will be: Resolution of design changes within budget and agreed timeline Demonstrated understanding of the change impact
4. To ensure quality of engineering deliverables YOU ARE TO: 4.1. Be self-motivated to improve technical competencies for current and future work assignments 4.2. Promote continuous improvement within the Discipline by maintaining/sharing the latest industry developments 4.3. Ensure activities are completed with consistency and in compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations 4.4. Apply and capture applicable lessons learned in the execution of activities to enable information sharing, increase project efficiencies, and support/develop best practices 4.5. Ensure work is organized and documented in a manner to support the intent of design for easy understanding by others 4.6. Ensure proper level of checks for all deliverables prior to submission; avoid cutting corners The measure of your effectiveness in this will be: Demonstrated quality of deliverables Zero design changes that compromise safety and quality Cost of Non-Quality 5. *If Acting as Lead Engineer: In order that the Project is properly planned YOU ARE TO: 5.1. Take ownership to define and develop Discipline scope by understanding and evaluating the project requirements 5.2. Identify dependencies and obtain alignment with project stakeholders to ensure safety and quality are not sacrificed in the effort to meet the project schedule 5.3. Collaborate with the Discipline Manager/Engineering Project Manager to accurately forecast man-hours, resource needs, and completion date for deliverables 5.4. Set team expectations for quality standards and enforce safety requirements to meet project needs, corporate standards, and industry regulations The measure of your effectiveness in this will be: Productivity = Man-hours earned/man-hour spend Demonstrated understanding of Discipline design impact on other Disciplines Cost of Non-Quality
