Reports To

  • Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) (See Unit HSEP Shipboard Manual Organization Chart for local variations).

Background

  • A Medic must provide appropriate, efficient, and timely pre-hospital Advanced, Intermediate and Basic Life Support care to the sick and injured, offshore and in accordance with local, state, national, international standards of practice. The Medic also provides highly professional service in the areas of radio communications, safety education, health, and safety compliance, purchasing, clerical records keeping and reporting, and other responsibilities that may be necessary on an offshore installation.

Authority

  • The Medic is authorized to manage the Sickbay, Pharmacy, relevant Stock Control, Alcohol and Drug tests, and appropriate record keeping.

  • Assistant Medics / Nurses as appropriate.

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards

  • 1) Maintain Health and Safety Systems and the Working Environment Statutory and Organizational Requirements.
  • 1 Responsible for the routine and emergency healthcare for site personnel
  • 2 Build and maintain an excellent working relationship with The Company clients, employees, and contractors.
  • 3 Responsible for ensuring personal CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and clinical skills are kept up to date.
  • 4 Provide onsite routine health care and advice to offshore personnel.
  • 5 Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness / injury.
  • 6 Administers basic, intermediate, and advanced patient care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols.
  • 7 Seek appropriate and timely consultation/advice from Topside service.
  • 8 Arrange any required Medevac cases in accordance with site protocols.
  • 9 Always maintain patient confidentiality, supported with clear and concise medical records. Documents all aspects of patient condition and treatment. Obtains and records non-medical patient information as required. Completes other patient documentation and forms as required.
  • 10 Management of clinical waste and routine cleaning of the sick bay.
  • 11 Conducts regular equipment inventory and testing to ensure all equipment for which the medic is responsible is present, clean and in proper working order. Documents and reports all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments (electronic or mechanical) as well as to supervisors and other project personnel as required.

  • Maintain all eye wash, earplug, and lens cleaning stations.
  • 4 Conduct routine hygiene checks of the galley and accommodation area.
  • 5 Water sampling and testing (if applicable).
  • 6 Awareness of OSHA Guidelines.

Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical certification by nationally recognized organization to Nurse standard (higher qualification desirable).
  • 3 years’ experience in Incident and Emergency Nursing with offshore experience preferred.
  • ATS/ALS certified.
  • Practical computer skills, in particular Management System-Excel, Management System-Word.

  • Proficiency in English at a minimum of B1 level according to the CEFR international standard
  • Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
