Internship from February 2025 for 6 months

Introduction

As part of core business of SBM Offshore as ocean solution provider (i.e. Floating Windfarm, FPSO…), installation at sea of its own product is a key component. With projects going into deep water, with harsher environment offshore installation is more complex and installation methodologies needs to adapt also incorporating new recorded data available.

Your Role

There is no cursus that prepares to jump into offshore installation world. Although you will first start working in group and out of your comfort zone on true study case during which you will explore various tools, meet engineering & operational teams of the department as well as presenting your work on each sprint (every 3d).

Based onto this first dive into offshore operations, you will work within project team of on-going project where offshore operations planned in Oct-2025. Operations will be executed in deep water depth and with strong subsea currents that slow down the execution. Your objective will be to re-visit laying methodology of light cable, focusing on subsea ROV monitoring that drives the operation and extrapolate new criteria that will drive installation vessel position thanks to image post-processing. For this you will have to perform hydrodynamic calculation and correlate with offshore records (using past projects) to propose new methodology.

What it will bring to you

    • Introduction to offshore environment & operations;
    • You will have opportunity to work with experienced people from various engineering disciplines;
    • Build-up strong problem-solving skills;
    • Substantial gain in experience of offshore industry applicable to Renewable and Oil & gas industries

Job requirements

    • 3rd year of engineering school with mechanical, hydrodynamic or data scientist background;
    • Programming skills and Python knowledge are a plus (learning along the internship);
    • Capability to understand the overall offshore operation combining various engineering discipline;
    • Good written and oral communication skills (English);
