Description:

Imagine your career taking you to the depths of innovation and the heights of impact.  Our people enable continuous progress. Their commitment, collective expertise, and unique capabilities are the engine room behind SBM Offshore’s True. Blue. Transition. - shaping the future of energy, and beyond.

About Us:
SBM Offshore is a global leader in deepwater ocean infrastructure, delivering floating production solutions across the full asset lifecycle—from design and construction to installation and operation. Supported by a global team of more than 8,000 professionals, the Company operates a long-term, asset-backed business model that delivers high-availability assets and predictable cash flows. SBM Offshore combines engineering expertise, operational reliability, and selective innovation to support safe, efficient, and lower-carbon energy production, while extending its capabilities into new opportunities across the blue economy.

Purpose

SBM Offshore is a recognized leader in oil and gas weathervaning systems and a benchmark for innovation and performance in this field. These systems rely on several critical mechanical components, including the swivel stack, bogie wheel system, main roller bearing, and mooring connectors.

This internship will take place within the Mechanical Design Engineering Department in Monaco and will include the opportunity to visit the Technology & Development Center located near Nice.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Systems Overview
Introduction to key mechanical components used in offshore applications, with a focus on their functional roles and design constraints.
  • Design Improvement Methodologies
Application of structured approaches to upgrade and optimize existing mechanical systems, including design‑to‑cost and design‑for‑maintenance strategies. This includes preliminary hand calculations to screen design options through iterative trial‑and‑error approaches, as well as collaboration with the Manufacturing Team and other interface disciplines.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Use of numerical tools to evaluate strength, fatigue, and deformation under operational loads, supported by case studies from real industrial projects, including non-linear analysis.
  • Kinematic and Dynamic Simulation
Hands‑on experience with RecurDyn or equivalent software to simulate motion, loads, and interactions within complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Cross‑Disciplinary Design Thinking
Development of innovative and “out‑of‑the‑box” solutions by drawing inspiration from automotive, aerospace, civil engineering or other practices to address offshore mechanical challenges of robustness, low maintenance and cost & schedule effectiveness.

Education

  • CATIA for 3D modeling and 2D drawings, ABAQUS for finite element analysis, Excel for hand calculations, Word for technical reporting, and RecurDyn (or equivalent) for dynamic simulations.
