Internship starting in September 2022



As part of core business of SBM Offshore as ocean solution provider (i.e. Floating Windfarm, FPSO…), installation of its own product is a key component. Offshore environment and size of asset used to perform operations are important and preparation phase is a key factor of success. As such, real time simulation tool allows to represent offshore marine operation and develop scenario that prepare both offshore & office teams react as such and test procedure robustness.


The current tools used for design can be driven in real time with external functions. Objective is to develop user interface and procedure to organize operation simulation events with operational team members on live projects.

Your Role

Working closely installation engineering team in charge of live project, you will be introduced to applicable offshore operations and associated procedure. With commonly used hydrodynamic tool (i.e. Orcaflex), you will develop external function made of Python, create user interface and pilot simulation with relevant actions/commands that match offshore reality. Starting with one project scenario, you will then perform simulation tests with offshore crew and elaborate simulation protocol for other projects.

  • You will have opportunity to work with experienced people from various engineering disciplines and from offshore construction vessels;
  • Build-up strong problem-solving skills;
  • Substantial gain in experience of offshore industry;


  • 3rd year of engineering school with mechanical, hydrodynamic or naval architect background;
  • Programming skills and Python knowledge are a plus (learning along the internship);
  • Capability to understand the overall offshore operation combining various engineering discipline;
  • Good written and oral communication skills (English);
