Job description



SBM Offshore opened its development branch in 2021 and is currently developing a pipeline of 4GW of floating offshore wind projects worldwide, with 2.1 GW targeted to be operational before 2030.


SBM Offshore relies on a core development team based in Europe, UK, US and Canada supporting integrated project teams, through its joint ventures, worldwide.


You will have the overall technical responsibility on your perimeter for the floating wind farms under development at SBM Offshore. Your role will be two folds.


You will be overseeing the grid and power systems of floating wind projects under development. The role is primary about coordination although you need to possess a strong technical background in your field such that you can produce facts when required.  Specifically, your will deliver the following services to the projects within our portfolio:


  • Frame project concept and provide high level technical inputs at very early project stage: technology selection, single line diagram, loss estimations...
  • Coordinate and approve the design of the overall electrical wind farm architecture
  • Prepare grid connection applications and follow-up with transmission system operator
  • Manage external engineering studies: prepare technical specifications, direct vendors during the project development phases
  • Prepare or contribute to the elaboration of functional specifications for key project packages such as substation, wind turbine, inter-array cables, …
  • Define and manage electrical interfaces between the various packages of the wind farms
  • Coordinate internal resources allocation to the projects


In addition to project assignment, your role will involve building technical excellence in your domain of expertise. This will mainly consist in:


  • Create and maintain technical referential (working procedure, standards)
  • Ensure consistency between projects under developments
  • Identify and maintain relation with key suppliers
  • Follow regulatory and best industry practices evolutions
  • Keep up to date with latest technology; join working group / industry programs
  • Share technical vision both internally and externally


You will report to the Technical Manager and are expected to interface with the following stakeholders:



  • Project development teams of each project under development
  • Electrical department and technical authorities
  • Other engineering disciplines
  • Supply chain department




  • SBM Offshore partners on co-development
  • Consultants, engineering companies
  • Local transmission system operator
  • Local grid and infrastructure regulators
  • Certification bodies
  • Technology Suppliers




Job requirements


  • Master engineering degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Technical expertise in electrical power systems and onshore / offshore electrical transmission
  • 10 years of experience, with a minimum 5 years of experience with power plant grid connection, ideally in wind energy.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and grid codes
  • Knowledge in specifications and electrical design of balance of plant components: substations, export and inter-array cables
  • Knowledge of wind turbine generators - An experience in an OEM wind turbine manufacturer would be a plus
