The role

You will drive the creation of innovative technologies, methodologies, concepts, and products that shape our competitive edge. On early-stage projects, you will distill requirements from a range of internal and external stakeholders into a focused development plan. Working closely with business development, sales, and proposal teams, you will gather critical market insights and cost data to guide product evolution. You will also serve as a key interface with clients—capturing their needs and presenting our solutions portfolio—whether in co-development partnerships or as part of broader business development efforts.

You will pinpoint the essential steps for project completion and map out a plan to achieve them. Throughout the process, you will coordinate a diverse team — from mechanical and electrical engineers to instrumentation and hydrodynamics experts — through various phases — engineering analysis and methodology development, small-scale tests and full-scale experimental validation — balancing cost and performance to deliver the best possible outcomes. With your multidisciplinary perspective, you will draw on each team member’s input, identify challenges, and refine proposed solutions to elevate their quality.

You will also review academic literature to extract relevant findings, and methodologies, and produce high-level technical publications based on project work. Your leadership ensures the team stays motivated and committed to driving progress, pushing the boundaries of innovation, and achieving remarkable results.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyze market trends and internal requirements to design innovative concepts, from early-stage ideas to full-scale prototypes.
  • Bring together and lead diverse engineering disciplines — mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, hydrodynamics — and external partners (labs, universities, subcontractors, certification bodies) to address challenges and refine designs.
  • Coordinate the entire lifecycle of R&D initiatives, including design basis documentation, advanced analytics, small-scale tests, full-scale experiments and final qualification documentation.
  • Work closely with the IP team to identify and protect valuable innovations, ensuring proper patent filings and strategic oversight of intellectual property.
  • Incorporate HSSE, regulatory, and quality criteria in project designs and execution. Proactively mitigate risks and adapt scopes as needed to maintain project momentum.
  • Design test protocols, review and interpret results to validate performance. Present findings to stakeholders and use obtained insights to guide the next steps.
  • Manage the procurement of equipment for testing and development by contacting vendors, obtaining competitive quotations, and coordinating with the purchasing team to issue purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with business development, proposals, and framing teams to capture client needs, present solutions and support co-development opportunities.
  • Provide clear direction, set tasks and objectives and foster a positive environment within the project team. Ensure timely delivery of studies by assigning responsibilities effectively and coaching team members to excel.

Skills and experience

  • A Master’s degree in mechanical engineering (PhD preferred), with at least 10 years of work experience, including at least 3 years in a similar role
  • Proficiency in FEA and other numerical engineering analysis methods; experience in coding is a plus
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, including strong mathematical modeling and data interpretation skills
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making skills to guide project direction and optimize solutions
  • Strong quantitative aptitude for handling complex numerical data, cost analysis, and feasibility studies
  • Proven ability to collaborate and lead cross-functional teams, fostering a productive and supportive environment
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to clearly articulate technical findings to diverse audiences
