Reports To
- Offshore Installation Manager (OIM)
Background
- A Radio Operator is responsible for ensuring radio communications are carried out effectively and for first line maintenance of communications equipment.
Authority
- The Radio Operator is authorized to operate internal and external radio and communications equipment, perform first line maintenance and is responsible for ensuring the systems are operated according to correct procedures and are maintained according to scheduled maintenance plans.

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards
- 1) Establish and Maintain Effective working Relationships
- 1 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team, colleagues and visitors to the working environment.
- 2 Establish and maintain effective communications with Company representatives and client.
- 3 Carry out accurate and effective work toolbox talks and handovers.
- 2) Operate Radio Communications Equipment
- 1 Operate VHF/MF/HF radio equipment according to correct international procedures.
- 2 Operation of Satellite systems and equipment.
- 3 Operate Internal telephone exchange.
- 4 Make tannoy announcements as required.
- 5 Control access to radios, radio room, and communications equipment and communications equipment rooms.
- 6 Use and respond to standard international communications terminology where appropriate.
- 3) Perform General Administration
- 1 Ensure incoming and outgoing messages, faxes and e-mails are delivered accurately and within good time.
- 2 Deliver oral messages clearly and accurately.
- 3 Maintain accurate PAX Lists, baggage and cargo manifests and cabin allocations where appropriate.
- 4) Maintain Communications Equipment
- 1
- Report all defects and problems immediately using correct procedures.

- Ensure all significant fittings, cabinets (doors, lights radios controls) and components are secure and operational.
- 3
- Perform first line maintenance of radio and communications equipment within limits of responsibility.
- 4
- Request spares or replacements using correct procedures.
- 5
- Produce accurate work history and log of maintenance and report to supervisor for entry into AMOS.
- 5) Emergency Response
- 1 Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill).
- 2 Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises.
Recruitment Only-Generic Functional Competencies
Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified in radio operations / air traffic or STCW Reg. AIV/2 (Minimum requirements for certification of GMDSS radio personnel).
- Practical computer skills, in particular Management System-Excel, Management System-Word.
- Proficiency in English at a minimum of A2 level according to the CEFR international standard.
- Telecom and communications equipment maintenance experience desired.
- Offshore experience preferred.
- Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
