RESPONSIBILITIES & MAIN TASKS
A Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the company’s operations are carried out in compliance with applicable HSSE laws, regulations, and standards. Some specific skills that are important for HSSE Engineers include:
Leadership and Culture:
• Drive leadership & culture improvement in Region 2 by supporting Regional HSSE manager in development and delivery;
• Share best practices; develop initiatives to learn from other unit operations – in particular from Brazilian units;
• Promote and develop SBM Safety Culture within the region;
• Provide mentoring/coaching to the onshore local HSSE departments.
HSSE Campaigns & programs:
• Support the deployment of HSSE programs and initiatives within the region in alignment with onshore HSSE engineers (where applicable);
• Develop and deliver regional stand-downs with offshore and onshore leadership teams as appropriate;
• Develop and roll out of regional campaign/programs to meet HSSE KPI targets;
• Monitor deployment of Operation HQ campaigns offshore (give me 5, plastic waste, sensing survey, etc);
• Improve learning from events in Region 2 (sharing of incident alerts, stand-downs, etc).
HSSE performance monitoring:
• Monitor progress of each Region 2 areas (EG, Guyana, Angola, Asia) with their annual HSSE plans. Report progress being made through dashboards;
• Lead and chair regular HSSE meetings with local HSSE engineers;
• SRS Trends monitoring. Support with Incident Tracking Closure & backlog. Develop a Tier 1 actions dashboard;
• Monitor effective performance against predefined HSSE KPIs. Develop solutions to meet targets;
• Ensure incident investigations are adequately performed and where investigation requires higher level of independence, lead or participate in these investigations where required.
HSSE Support to Operations:
• Act as Project HSSE Manager for major offshore projects (e.g. shutdowns, brownfield projects) in close coordination with local HSSE teams – preparation of HSSE plan, resourcing of project safety officers, etc.;
• Stand-in as Local HSSE engineer as/when required (e.g. leave period). Can be done remotely;
• Ensure appropriate management of changes and/or deviation.
Assurance activities:
• Participate or lead internal or client audits as required (OIA, ISM DOC, ISM SMC, etc);
• Monitor audit findings and tracking closure;
• Monitor execution of audits within the region;
• Support Region 2 pre-qualification and qualification audits for local vendors.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Specific skills / expertise / product:
• Engineering Degree in HSSE, Technical Safety or Safety and Loss Prevention;
• Strong technical/operational experience, with relevant HSSE qualification;
• Knowledge of HSSE procedures and regulations;
• Ability to work effectively in diverse cultures and regions;
• Global mindset, pro-active, problem-solving paired with a very clear hands-on mentality;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interface with multi disciplines;
• PowerBI.
