Purpose
- To provide expert guidance and management in indirect tax compliance and strategy, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and optimizing financial outcomes for the organization
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all indirect tax regulations while optimizing tax efficiencies for the organization. You will be expected to stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations, interpreting their impact on the business, and advising on necessary adjustments.
- Your duties will include preparing and/or supervising the filing of indirect tax returns accurately and on time, including VAT/GST returns, sales tax returns, and other relevant filings. You will conduct thorough reviews of financial records, transactions, and systems to identify potential indirect tax issues and opportunities for improvement. Collaborating closely with internal teams such as Finance, Accounting, and Legal, you will provide guidance on indirect tax implications of business decisions, transactions, and contracts.
- Another crucial aspect of your role will be managing relationships with external tax authorities and advisors, responding to inquiries and audits, and representing the organization during tax audits or appeals. You will also contribute to indirect tax strategy development, recommending changes to processes and systems to enhance compliance and minimize tax liabilities.
- Additionally, you will play a key role in training and educating internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters, ensuring awareness and understanding across the organization. Your ability to analyze complex tax issues, communicate effectively, and implement practical solutions will be critical to your success in this role.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees such as a Master's in Taxation (M.Tax), International Tax Law, or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) with a focus on tax law are is preferred. These degrees provide a solid foundation in legal and financial principles necessary for understanding transfer pricing regulations and policies.
- Certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or specialized certifications in transfer pricing (e.g., Certified Transfer Pricing Professional CTPP) further demonstrate expertise and commitment to the field.Fluency in English is essential for effective communication with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and tax authorities.
Experience
- Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in indirect taxes, such as VAT/GST, customs duties, and other transactional taxes, preferably within a multinational company or consulting firm.In-depth knowledge of indirect tax laws and regulations in multiple jurisdictions. Experience in advising on indirect tax implications for business transactions and operations.Proven ability to develop and implement indirect tax strategies to optimize compliance and minimize tax liabilities. Experience in managing indirect tax audits and disputes.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to business scenarios. Experience in conducting tax research and staying updated with changes in tax laws.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, external advisors, and tax authorities.
