Background
- The Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring the product specification is correct in terms of BS &W by sampling and analysis. They have a specific responsibility for ensuring chemical stocks and rates are maintained at appropriate levels and that sample reports are communicated effectively.
Authority
- The Laboratory Technician has authority over subordinates.

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards
- 1) Carry Out Routine Sampling And Testing /Analysis Operation
- 1 Prepare for sampling and obtain representative samples.
- 2 Maintain integrity of samples before analyzing.
- 3 Prepare for simple testing / analysis Prepare sample for test / analysis. Conduct test / analysis.
- 4 Record test / analysis results within appropriate documentation.
- 2) Maintain safe and healthy conditions in the working environment.
- 1 Comply with the necessary conditions for an effective and safe working environment.
- 2 Follow incident and emergency procedures as required.
- 3 Maintain an effective and safe working environment.
- 4 Limit the damage to persons or property in the event of an incident or emergency.
- 3) Ensure That Laboratory And Field Test-Equipment Is Calibrated And Maintained
- 1 Identify calibration requirements for Laboratory and field test equipment.
- 2 Monitor adherence to calibration requirements.
- 3 Calibrate equipment / arrange for calibration of equipment as required.
- 4 Report and record calibration details within appropriate documentation.
- 4) Control Stocks Of Equipment, Materials And Chemicals Required For Laboratory And Plant

- Order stocks to maintain minimum levels.

- Receive and store stock, (including bunkering of chemicals) as required.
- 3
- Optimize stock usage to always maintain levels.
- 4
- Issue stock / ensure that adequate levels are available for other users.
- 5) Communicate Information (Written And Orally), Accurately, Concisely And Promptly

- Process incoming and outgoing communications.
- 2
- Receive and relay oral and written messages, data, logs etc.
- 3
- Supply information for specific purposes / tasks.
- 4
- Communicate with Supervisors, peers and external parties accurately, concisely and promptly.
- 6) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures.
- 1 Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure and regulation. 2
- Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures.

- Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure.
- 4
- Environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors.
- 7) Emergency Response
- 1 Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill).
- 2 Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises.
Recruitment Only-Generic Functional Competencies
Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience
- Qualification in Chemistry required.
- Experience as a Lab Technician in the hydrocarbon processing industry (FPSO experience preferred).
- Practical experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Standards and Risk Assessment.
- Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
