Reports To

  • Assistant Maintenance Supervisor

Background

  • The Maintenance Technician will exhibit a high standard of safety behaviors while carrying out Engine Room maintenance and Engine Room system operation. They may be expected to perform maintenance, preservation, welding, machining, pipe and mechanical fitting and related activities. Depending on its qualifications, they act as Junior Watchkeeper.

Authority

  • The Maintenance Operator acts under the Authority of the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor and/or Engine Room Supervisor as appropriate.

Immediate Subordinates

  • Fitters designated as part of team, visitors, vendor technicians, and sub-contractors

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards

  • 1) Operate Engine Room Equipment and Systems and Utilities Operation
  • 1 Prepare marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems for start-up.
  • 2 Start and monitor marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems.
  • 3 Prepare and shutdown marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems.
  • 4 Follow operational and safety procedures in all aspects of work.
  • 2) Perform Maintenance activities
  • 1 Isolate and reinstate marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems for Maintenance.
  • 2 Perform scheduled and unplanned maintenance safely and effectively under PTW Risk Assessment and Management System procedures.
  • 3 Ensure work is correctly and accurately identified, recorded and communicated.
  • 4 Perform general maintenance, greasing, cleaning, filter changing and housekeeping.
  • 5 The Maintenance operator may be required to correctly operate a Lathe, Milling and Shaping Machines, Gas Arc and or Plasma cutting.
  • 6 Maintain all portable power tools to limit of responsibility. (No; electrical’ work unless accredited by the electrical department).
  • 3) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures
  • 1 Ensure that any controlled process discharges from area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits.
  • 2 Identify and halt any unplanned (gas or liquid discharges where possible, and reported immediately according to policy, procedure and regulation.
  • 3 Deal with equipment, waste or other materials for disposal according to the correct procedure.
  • 4 Do not waste resources such as PPE, stock items, materials, tools or spare parts.
  • 4) Emergency Response
  • 1 Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill).
  • 2 Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises.

Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience

  • 3 years’ experience in shipping as a watch keeping Engine Room rating, STCW Reg. AIII/4, or EOOW STCW Reg. AIII/1 ORor
  • General maintenance skills including fitting, and Coded Welding qualification.
  • VLCC /Large Seagoing Vessel Engine Room or FPSO operations experience desirable.
  • Proficiency in English at a minimum of A1 level according to the CEFR international standard.
  • Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
