We are seeking an experienced Production Chemist to provide expert guidance on oil field chemicals and their interactions with materials used in upstream oil and gas systems. This role will enhance our technical capabilities when engaging with clients and ensure the effective selection and application of chemicals in projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in production chemistry, material compatibility, and failure analysis, bridging the gap between chemical treatments and engineering design.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Chemical & Material Compatibility Expertise

  • Evaluate the interaction of oil field chemicals (corrosion inhibitors, asphaltene inhibitors, demulsifiers, scale inhibitors) with metallic and non-metallic materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, CRAs, elastomers, gaskets, coatings and linings).
  • Assess chemical-induced material degradation, including corrosion, swelling, and chemical attack, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Provide recommendations for material selection and chemical treatment in piping, storage vessels, pumps, and production systems.

2. Technical Advisory & Client Engagement

  • Act as a subject matter expert in discussions with oil & gas operators, ensuring informed and competitive technical exchanges.
  • Translate complex chemical-material interactions into clear, actionable recommendations for engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in optimizing chemical application based on operating conditions (temperature, pressure, multiphase flow).

3. Testing, Analysis & Problem-Solving

  • Conduct or oversee laboratory testing to assess chemical performance and material compatibility.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot field issues related to chemical-induced material failure.
  • Develop and refine protocols for chemical selection, application, and monitoring in operations.

4. Internal Knowledge Development & Documentation

  • Provide training and technical support to internal teams on oil field chemistry and material selection.
  • Develop guidelines, reports, and best practices to standardize chemical treatment strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (NACE, API, ISO) and evolving best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

Hard Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in production chemistry or materials science within the oil & gas sector.
  • Expertise in oil field chemicals and their impact on metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, material degradation, and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in laboratory testing methods, chemical modeling tools, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (NACE, API, ISO) and upstream oil & gas operational challenges.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork.
