The Structural Hull discipline comprises engineers and designers who provide structural engineering services to the Group Product Lines. This includes studies, proposals, technology development, Pre-FEED projects, FEED projects, EPCI projects and brownfield projects. The team is responsible for design calculations, 3D modeling, construction drawings, and MTOs for FPSO and other offshore structures.

 

We are currently seeking a Discipline Lead Engineer to strengthen our Structural Hull discipline.

 

Job description

As the Discipline Lead Engineer, you will lead the Structural Hull team, which includes structural hull engineers and designers. Key scopes include:

  • Structural design of new build hulls and tanker conversions of FPSO projects.
  • Support to the Technology Development in bringing new products and technology to the market for FPSO and Renewable product lines.
  • Assisting the vessel acquisition department in selecting donor tankers for conversion to FPSO.
  • Providing support for brownfield projects.

 

You will interface with clients, project management, other disciplines, procurement, construction, classification bureaus, and subcontractors. You are responsible for:

  • Lead and manage the Structural Hull team, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to project timelines and budget.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or challenges that arise.
  • Oversee the structural design process.
  • Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and classification society rules.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, representing the Structural Hull discipline.
  • Support the development and implementation of new technologies and methodologies within the discipline.

 

Job requirements

SBM Schiedam is looking for candidates who have an MSc or BSc degree or equivalent (i.e. Professional Certification) in Offshore Structures / Naval Architecture with the specialism of structural analysis of floating structures. You should have approximately 10 years of relevant experience in floating structural design, including 4 years in a leadership role.

 

Furthermore, you have:

  • Strong management and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the floating structure design process, from conceptual to construction phases.
  • Extensive experience and technical expertise in structural analysis of global and local hull structures.
  • Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV, Lloyds).
  • Experience in engineering and design of floating units in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of structural interfaces with related disciplines, such as mooring structure integrations, topside integrations, and other equipment integrations.
  • Preferably, experience with ABS hull software ISE/TSA and finite element software FEMAP.
  • Preferably, experience in FPSO life extension projects.
  • Professional proficiency in English (verbal and written).
