Purpose

  • The Construction Quality Non-Destructive Testing Lead Inspector is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the integrity and safety of construction materials and components through advanced non-destructive testing techniques.
  • Your role is key and crucial in identifying defects, assessing material properties, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, contributing to the overall quality and durability of construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • You supervise and coordinate all NDT activities on-site, including ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MPT), dye penetrant testing (DPT), and eddy current testing (ECT) of critical components and welds throughout the FPSO construction.
  • You develop and implement NDT inspection plans and schedules, ensuring that all relevant components are inspected at appropriate stages of construction, based on project timelines and quality requirements.
  • You ensure all NDT inspections and processes meet the project specifications, client requirements, industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO), and regulatory guidelines.
  • You lead, supervise, and train a team of NDT inspectors, ensuring they have the appropriate certifications and are competent in carrying out their inspections in accordance with the highest safety and quality standards.
  • You ensure accurate documentation and reporting of NDT inspection results, including maintaining clear records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformance reports (NCRs). Provide detailed reports to the project’s quality control team, project managers, and engineering teams.
  • You identify, report, and resolve any non-conformance or defects detected through NDT inspections and recommend corrective actions.
  • You collaborate closely with the engineering team to interpret NDT results, review design specifications, and ensure that critical components are inspected at the right stages in the construction process.
  • You oversee the safety practices related to NDT procedures, ensuring that all inspections are carried out safely, especially in hazardous or explosive environments. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • You promote continuous improvement in NDT practices, adopting new technologies and techniques to enhance inspection efficiency and accuracy.

Education

  • Diploma in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Structural, or Marine Engineering).
  • FPSO Project Experience: Prior experience working specifically on FPSO construction projects is highly advantageous.
  • Advanced NDT Technologies: Familiarity with advanced NDT technologies and equipment, such as phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), automated ultrasonic testing (AUT), and digital radiography.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Non-Destructive Testing within the oil and gas, offshore, or marine industries, with significant experience in FPSO or shipbuilding projects.
  • Valid certifications in NDT methods such as ASNT Level III in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), and/or Eddy Current Testing (ECT). Additional certifications in NDT techniques such as AWS, CSWIP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of NDT methods and techniques, as well as relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, ASTM), specifically related to offshore construction and FPSO projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations related to NDT inspections, with a proven track record of promoting safe working practices in construction and manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in the use of NDT equipment, data analysis software, and understanding of automated NDT systems.
