Purpose

  • The Insurance Specialist plays a role in safeguarding the company’s insurable risks and has a good understanding of the complexities of the offshore energy sector as well as the insurance market.
  • You help the Offshore Contracting, Terminals & Services, Turnkey & Operation business lines by managing and supporting the existing insurance solutions to mitigate the construction, operational and corporate risks of SBM activities worldwide.
  • You proactively support senior team members in arranging renewal of policies. You independently interact with insurance brokers and claims consultants to handle insurance claims efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • You help the Ocean Infrastructure business line by advising and implementing insurance solutions to manage the construction, operational and corporate risks of SBM activities worldwide;
  • You provide legal advice on insurance related matters to the Win & Grow business line and support the LCC organization in contract negotiations;
  • You liaise with different roles in the company in order to create awareness and provide general education on insurance requirements, including the development and delivery of online learning/reference material;
  • You provide accurate, relevant, and timely contractual risk reviews to SBM internal clients, including the Operational department and Offshore Contracting team, especially in relation to indemnity / liability / responsibility and insurance clauses and determine appropriate types and levels of insurance;
  • You collate underwriting information and inform relevant business disciplines (such as Cost Control) on the costs of insurance in reference to bids, projects and the operational fleet;
  • You provide accurate and timely claims handling to the SBM Group for claims that result out of the operation of our Units (FPSO’s) including claims for damages to our vessels, other property, P &I, Loss of Hire, pollution and third-party claims;
  • You collate claims information and inform relevant business disciplines on the development and costs of insurance claims.
  • You work strategically together with insurance brokers throughout the claim recovery process to maximise recoveries under all insurance policies;
  • You manage and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines from the internal clients, often at short notice.
  • You ensure the business complies with our global insurance policies.

Education

  • LL.M. (Master of Laws), University degree in Economics, Business Administration or Engineering or equivalent.
  • Certified insurance courses either at brokers or at Trade Association.
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal), other foreign language (French and/or Dutch) is a plus

Experience

  • 3-7 years of insurance, legal or claims handling experience, at an insurance broker or insurance company or in-house preferebly with experience in the oil and gas, offshore construction or energy sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels – accurate, consistent, timely, and understandable communication is essential.
  • Ability to develop strong internal relationships with the relevant businesses, including turnkey, operations, and renewables in SBM Offshore.
  • A pro-active and organized attitude – you see the bigger picture and contribute to discussions beyond your role.
  • Proven ability to manage claims, insurance negotiations, competent in providing insurance legal advice and demonstrating sound ethical judgement.
  • Demonstrated proficiency insurance knowledge, to provide legal insurance advice and understanding of insurance claims.
