Purpose

Title: Swivel resisting torque and test bench

Duration : 6 Months internship - Monaco based

SBM Offshore, a recognized leader in Oil & Gas swivel technologies, serves as a benchmark for innovation and performance in this domain. Around this technology, the resisting torque coming from the sealing system is an important parameter. The training will be composed of the following activities within the Engineering Mechanical Design Department in Monaco, with possibility to visit the Technology & Development Center located around Nice.

Responsibilities

Theoretical activity:

        1. Theoretical formulation of seal resisting torque is established using analytical mechanics principles and record of previous values.
        2. A numerical model complements the formula to simulate torque behavior under varying conditions.
        3. The existing formula is updated and the corresponding report is issued for use by Mechanical Design Dpt on projects.

Design and strength resistance analysis:

        1. Brainstorm and design of a portable swivel test bench is initiated to validate theoretical predictions, including collaboration with our Manufacturing Team.
        2. Structural components are dimensioned to withstand expected torque loads and operational stresses.
        3. Finite element analysis is applied to ensure mechanical integrity and safety margins.
        4. Material selection prioritizes durability, weight efficiency, and corrosion resistance with possible use of protective coatings.
        5. Assembly layout facilitates ease of transport and modular testing configurations.

Load monitoring and data acquisition:

        1. A rotation torque load monitoring system is requested to be proposed for controlled actuation and measurement.
        2. Integration of sensors and data acquisition is planned for real-time torque monitoring

Education

Main engineering tools used: CATIA for 3D modeling and 2D drawings, ABAQUS for FEA, Excel for hand calculations, Word for reporting.

Matlab or other signal processing software for data acquisition and analysis.
