Purpose

Topic : Offshore Installation Engineering: From Design to Offshore Execution

6 months internship Monaco based

Introduction

Offshore installation is where engineering meets reality. Every offshore platform, floating facility, or renewable energy asset must ultimately be transported, lifted, and installed safely at sea.

At SBM Offshore, Installation Engineers are responsible for preparing these complex operations by developing methodologies, performing engineering assessments, selecting installation equipment, and supporting offshore execution. Their work involves close collaboration with project teams, vessel crews, offshore personnel, and specialists from multiple engineering disciplines.

This internship offers the opportunity to join an ongoing project team and experience the practical aspects of offshore installation engineering. Through direct involvement in real project activities, you will gain valuable exposure to engineering studies, installation procedures, rigging design, and offshore operations, providing an excellent foundation for a future career within the offshore industry.

Responsibilities

Your Mission

Offshore installation is the final and most visible stage in the delivery of offshore energy projects. It requires the careful preparation of engineering studies, procedures, equipment specifications, and execution plans to ensure that offshore operations are performed safely and efficiently.

As part of this internship, you will join an active project team and work alongside experienced installation engineers involved in the preparation and execution of offshore installation campaigns.

From day one, you will be immersed in real project activities and contribute to the engineering work required for the installation of offshore platforms and associated structures.

Your responsibilities may include:

    • Supporting the development of offshore installation procedures and method statements;
    • Participating in rigging design activities, including lifting arrangements and equipment selection;
    • Contributing to preliminary installation analyses and feasibility assessments;
    • Preparing engineering sketches and installation drawings using AutoCAD;
    • Assisting in the definition of installation sequences and operational constraints;
    • Participating in risk identification and operational reviews;
    • Supporting the preparation of engineering deliverables for offshore execution.

Throughout the internship, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including structural, project, and installation engineers. You will also interact with offshore operational personnel and vessel teams to better understand how engineering decisions are translated into real offshore operations.

By the end of the internship, you will have contributed to the preparation of an actual offshore installation project and gained valuable insight into the complete engineering workflow, from concept development through offshore execution.

What You Will Gain:

This internship is designed for students who want a practical and immersive introduction to offshore engineering and project execution.

You will have the opportunity to:

    • Experience the day-to-day work of an Offshore Installation Engineer;
    • Contribute to a real project with tangible engineering deliverables;
    • Understand how engineering disciplines interact within a project environment;
    • Develop practical knowledge of lifting, rigging, transportation, and installation operations;
    • Learn industry-standard engineering tools and methodologies;
    • Gain exposure to offshore execution constraints and vessel operations;
    • Build strong communication and coordination skills through interactions with project and operational teams.

This internship provides an excellent pathway toward a future career in offshore installation engineering, marine operations, or project engineering.

Education

We are looking for a Master's-level engineering student with a strong interest in complex engineering projects and offshore operations.

Preferred background:

    • Mechanical Engineering;
    • Naval Architecture / Hydrodynamics;
    • Ocean Engineering;
    • Data Science or Applied Mathematics.

Required competencies:
