Purpose

SBM is seeking a Quality Control Lead (QCL-MM) to join the Supply Chain Excellence team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity and quality of critical Mooring and Marine equipment.

The Quality Control Lead will work closely with stakeholders across Supply Chain, Projects, Technical Authorities, and Engineering to uphold quality standards and drive continuous improvement.

As a QC Lead, you will:

  • Ensure robust quality control for key supplier packages.
  • Develop tools, processes, and templates for effective inspection management.
  • Monitor third-party inspectors and oversee critical inspection points during production.
  • Lead investigations into quality issues, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures with its stakeholders.
  • Actively engage with internal and external stakeholders, providing timely updates and resolving concerns.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives for qualification, performance assessment, and risk management.

QC Team Objective

The QC Lead is part of the Supply Chain Excellence team with the Objective to Transform decentralized quality practices into global operational excellence.  The Quality Control Lead will report hierarchy to the Supply Chain Quality Control Manager and interact in close collaboration with the Global Category Manager Marine & Mooring and thier team.

Responsibilities

  • Apply extensive knowledge of industry specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance and integrity for Hull, Mooring, and Marine equipment.
  • Validate system, quality, and documentation requirements.
  • Implement risk-based inspection methodologies and manage cost of quality.
  • Conduct Supplier Qualifications Audits and Assessments as per business needs.
  • Conduct technical investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Develop and standardize Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) for their packages.
  • Review & Validate Technical Inspection Documentations.
  • Lead improvement workshops with strategic suppliers in line with the global sourcing strategy of the Global Marine & Mooring category.
  • Review and improve processes and procedures to close gaps and enhance efficiency.
  • Lead transformation initiatives and quality improvement projects.
  • Monitor and measure effectiveness of quality improvement actions.
  • Drive communication strategies for transformation projects.
  • Advocate quality through strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with peers and the SC QC Manager to align with team vision.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and guidelines.
  • Stay updated on industry-specific technologies and practices.
  • Collect and disseminate lessons learned across projects.

Education

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or related discipline.

Experience

Minimum 8 years in engineering, supply chain or inspection roles.

  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, material selection, corrosion mitigation, and monitoring.
  • Qualified lead auditor (ISO 9001) and familiar with the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, QMS frameworks, and management system audits.
  • Expertise: Subject Matter Expert in relevant technical discipline plus Hand on Experience in minimum two of three disciplines (as applicable – criticality based) and willingness to develop the third discipline in the first year.

Marine Packages:

  1. Cranes & Lifting Equipment – Pedestal cranes, gantry cranes, travelling cranes.
  2. Davits & Lifting Accessories – Davits, chain blocks, lifting jacks, powered hoists.
  3. Safety & Life-Saving Equipment – Lifeboats, rescue boats, fire-fighting systems.
  4. Hull Interfaces – Coating systems, welding assemblies, corrosion protection components.
  5. Offshore Hoses – Floating and submarine hoses for fluid transfer.
  6. Marine Cranes & Handling Systems – Loose lifting and rigging equipment.
  7. Safety Systems – Fire-fighting equipment, environmental safety gear.
  8. Life-Saving Appliances – Lifeboats, rescue boats, davits.
  9. Marine Outfitting – Elevators, powered trolley hoists, spreader structures.

Mooring Packages

  1. Anchor Chains & Accessories – High-strength chains, connectors, shackles.
  2. Polyester Ropes – For deepwater mooring systems.
  3. Spring Buoys – Buoyancy elements for mooring lines.
  4. Turret & Mooring Systems – Swivels, manufactured parts, bearings, mooring connectors
  5. Critical Interfaces – Load monitoring systems, tensioners.

 

  • Skills:
    • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Proven ability to lead quality initiatives and process improvements.
    • Familiarity with Lean, RCA, Kaizen, and Six Sigma (or willingness to develop).
    • Excellent planning, ownership, and organizational abilities.
    • Analytical skills to separate facts from opinions
    • In-depth knowledge of the manufacturing of the goods and the services related to the Marine & Mooring scopes.
    • Familiarity with Lean techniques, Root Cause Assessments, Kaizen, and Six Sigma (or willingness to develop).
    • Reporting based on documented information, objective facts and SBM and Client requirements.
  • Other:
    • English fluency.
    • Wiliness and ability to travel internationally on a frequent basis.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic project environment.
