Purpose

  • The Senior Engineer's purpose is to design and engineer solutions that achieve high standards of safety, reliability, and sustainability, thereby contributing to the projects and organization's strategic objectives and long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently assess cost, constructability, operability, and maintainability throughout the project.
  • Demonstrate conceptual thinking abilities to develop fit-for-purpose instrumentation and telecommunications systems for relatively small offshore installations, whether fixed or floating.
  • Serve as a discussion partner with Clients regarding instrumentation and telecommunications scope.
  • Provide instrumentation and telecoms expertise to support internal concept development initiatives.
  • Prepare, at minimum, the conceptual design of control, safety, and fire & gas (F&G) systems along with a foundational architecture overview.
  • Address field instruments, control and shutdown valves, as well as Pressure Relief Valves.
  • Include F&G detection systems.
  • Incorporate basic telecommunication systems as typically present on small offshore installations.
  • Contribute to the Basis of Design and control philosophy during the conceptual phase.
  • Develop manhour estimates for Concept, FEED, and EPC phases.
  • Lead the creation of project-specific system designs and compile all associated documentation (Basis of Design, philosophies, specifications, datasheets, layouts, block diagrams, cause & effect diagrams, etc.).
  • Collaborate with mechanical package engineers to ensure proper integration of auxiliary systems, such as hydraulics.
  • Fulfill the role of package engineer for instrument packages and work closely with the Supply Chain team to perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Oversee information flow to remote teams to facilitate the 3D modeling of instrumentation and telecoms equipment, as well as the preparation of specifications, bid reviews, layouts, cable block diagrams, termination diagrams, loop diagrams, hook-up diagrams, mounting details, cable lists, junction box lists, and bulk MTOs for cables, cable glands, and hook-up materials.
  • Review vendor data to ensure proper integration and interfacing of package units.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency in interfaces with other disciplines, primarily electrical, piping, and process engineering.
  • Evaluate sub-contractor documents to verify quality and uniformity
  • Confirm system compliance with regulatory regimes, classification requirements, SBM standards, and Client specifications.

Education

  • Engineer Diploma in relevant discipline

Experience

  • At least 8 years of experience in instrumentation design within the offshore oil & gas industry.
  • Basic knowledge of telecom systems, including PA/GA, CCTV, and UHF/VHF radio communication.
  • Experience designing small-scale control and safety systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical package interfaces.
  • Background in manhour estimation and managing remote teams.
  • Preferably, demonstrated competence in instrumentation design for hazardous areas (such as IECEx001).
  • Experience in engineering and design related to offshore oil & gas equipment, platforms, or floating structures, turrets, buoys, floating wind mills, windfarm.
  • Some practical exposure to offshore installations, either during onshore construction, commissioning, or offshore operations.
  • Specific experience with instrumentation for FPSO turrets is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of functional safety implementation (IEC61511).
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Advanced skills in SmartPlant Instrumentation.
  • Experience using instrumentation calculation software such as CONVAL.
  • French languate skills are a plus.
